Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are famous for their intense rivalry and racing on and off track.
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are arguably the best drivers on the grid currently. The duo is well known for its intense rivalry. Both push each other to the maximum racing wheel to wheel as they fight for the lead.
We saw enough examples of the same during the 2021 season. Both the drivers kept everything online for the ultimate glory which made us witness some extremely close racing accompanied by contacts and in a few cases crashes.
The 2022 season however was not that heated for the duo. Mercedes failed to provide Lewis Hamilton with a car good enough to challenge the red bull of Max Verstappen.
It’s different when Verstappen fights Hamilton
Regardless, we did witness a glimpse of the past in Brazil. The duo again came together fighting for the lead during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The contact ultimately led to damage to both’s cars.
Max Verstappen feels it is different when he is fighting Lewis Hamilton:
“Well, I have to be careful what I’m saying here, but with everyone I’ve been fighting this year, it’s been really hard, aggressive battles and we never really came together,”
Verstappen analyzed.
“Somehow, with Lewis it’s a different story. And I honestly don’t understand.”
“Like, this year, ok we haven’t really had a lot of battles. But Brazil we got together and it was not my intention. I got the blame for it, which I didn’t find fair,”
added Verstappen.
“If it would’ve been more of a racing incident that I could live with.”
“But I don’t understand. Maybe it’s just a generation thing, that we understand each other better, we are racing nicer to each other. I don’t get it.”
Mercedes would wish to see more racing between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton this year. Red bull looks like the team to catch at the moment and Mercedes did cover a lot of distance throughout the 2022 season.
