However, in a very shocking turn of events Chelsea decided to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto. This was a very unexpected transfer as the attack position is already quite stacked for Chelsea. During Chelsea’s pre-season, players like Noni Madueke surpassed all expectations. Chelsea fans are now expecting the youngster to be a regular starter for the club. Moreover, Chelsea signed Mykhailo Mudryk for an estimated €100m two seasons ago. Everyone expected Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca to help the youngster play and grow into a better player this season. However, Pedro Neto’s arrival can affect the youngster game time as well. Is the Wolves sensation an unnecessary signing for Chelsea?
Pedro Neto is surely a player with lots of potential for the future. The Portuguese youngster can be one of the best talents in the world. After Conor Gallagher was forced out of Chelsea, the first step should be to sign his replacement. Conor Gallagher played the most minutes last season out of every Chelsea player. The midfielder was even captain on numerous occasions. Instead Chelsea signed a winger. Another position that has needed improvement for a very long time is striker. Chelsea always try to sign a striker in the transfer window but fail. Last season the problem of not having a proper striker was very clear. All the goalscoring responsibilities were on the shoulders of youngster Cole Palmer.
How can Chelsea integrate so many players?
Chelsea now have a squad of more than forty players for the next season. These include their signings from the previous season as well as their players returning from injury. Last season it was visible how Chelsea struggle to integrate players in their squad. Their signings from previous season took a good amount of time to adapt to Premier League football. Many young players were struggling to make their mark in the team. Due to injury problems there was constant changing of the tactics which made it difficult for players to settle in.
We can say a Chelsea are facing a similar problem this time as well. In the pre season all players were looking lost and there was no chemistry between them. New manager Enzo Maresca has still not found a way to properly implement his game style in Chelsea. Many positions are too much stacked and every player will struggle for game time. This is the worst time for Chelsea to face these problems as the Premier League season is nearby. There first match will be against former champions Manchester City. Chelsea lost to Manchester City in pre season and will try not to repeat that outcome again.
