India’s Olympic Gold Medalists Neeraj Chopra the only athlete from India to win gold couldn’t make it to the World Athletics Award nominee list for athletes. In fact Marcell Jacobs, the Italian sprinter was also excluded from the list. He was also the only male to claim 2 Gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Although Gianmarco Tamberi was tied for the gold with Murtaza Barshim in the High jumps was also a major omission

Neeraj created history in the Tokyo Olympics for India in the javelin by winning the Gold medal. Thus, he deserved to be on the nominee list.

Meanwhile, the omission of Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs from the World Athletics Award nominees has enraged the Italian Olympic movement. A senior official called this decision a lack of respect and “profoundly wrong“. Jacob was a surprising winner of the 100 meters iconic track and field Olympic event. He even helped Italy win the 4×100 relay race too.

Giovanni Malag the Italian Olympic committee president after the release of the nominee’s list said, “It is profoundly wrong. We are very upset.” According to Malag the omission of the two Italians Athletes was disrespectful.
