‘You can’t be greedy’ – Horner and Red bull prepare for the 2023 challenge

Ferrari 2023

Red bull is preparing for the upcoming penalty received due to the budget cap breach in the 2021 season.

The red bull F1 team was found guilty of breaching the budget cap set for the 2021 season. This resulted in FIA rewarding a penalty to the Milton Keynes-based squad. The penalty was a fine accompanied by a 10% reduction in the wind tunnel testing time. The latter part of the penalty will affect the team the most.

With the 2022 season over, most teams are already gearing up for the next season. Red bull is also preparing for the challenges that lie ahead. The 2022 Constructor title champions will be looking to defend their title in the upcoming season.

However, the 10% deduction means that the side will be at a huge disadvantage in terms of testing time in comparison to Ferrari and Mercedes.

Horner ready for the 2023 challenge

Meanwhile, team principal Christian Horner has also discussed the issue. The Briton called his team to “think smarter” and use the allocated time wisely:

“It just means we will have to think smarter and be more selective in what we test and run but we just need to adapt,”

explained Horner.

“What we have lost in wind tunnel time. We have gained in motivation and I think that we have just got to get on with it. Get our heads down and do the very best job that we can.”

“You can’t be greedy, every single run counts and it has even more of a factor when you think we have potentially 20 percent less than Mercedes, for example, in wind tunnel time.”

Given the success of the RB18 this year, we can expect the Red bull to be if not that much strong but still fighting at the front next year. More importantly, Max Verstappen also seems to be in the form of his life-giving the side an advantage.
