Chelsea

Chelsea failed to guarantee their spot in the FA Cup’s fifth round tonight.

After drawing 0-0 with Aston Villa tonight, the Blues will at least be in the hat for the following round, but they’ll have to get there via replay.

The Chelsea team led by Mauricio Pochettino had several opportunities. Especially in the first half, to score the goal that would have separated the two teams. The Argentine was forced to think on his feet before the game even got underway when it appeared obvious that Levi Colwill was going to be unable to take his place in the starting eleven.

He was replaced by Alfie Gilchrist. Who was not given much time to prepare for just his second start for the club.

The 20-year-old has already become somewhat of a Stamford Bridge fan favorite. Because he is obviously one of the players who knows what it means to be a Chelsea player.

Gilchrist showed the fortitude to frequently enter midfield during his 65 minutes of play, and he looked perfectly at home in the starting lineups back four.

Gilchrist impresses for Chelsea

Ben Chilwell, who was coming off of a stellar performance on his first start back from injury earlier this week, took his place.

As Chelsea pursued a goal in the closing minutes of the game. Pochettino was eager to have a true full-back on the field.

Gilchrist did, however, leave his mark on Stamford Bridge today. And the manager ought to have concluded that the academy graduate ought to be given more playing time this season.

Given the frequency of back injuries this season and the uncertainty surrounding Colwill’s ailment. The versatile youngster could see more opportunities from Chelsea coming his way.
