Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in the IPL, bagging five titles to their name, has decided to let go of their star all-rounder Hardik Pandya from the team ahead of the auctions of IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians have retained Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav while letting go of the Pandya brothers and Ishan Kishan from the squad.

Zaheer Khan, who is in the team’s think tank, revealed reasons such as the complexity of the process and the presence of various facets.

But, he is confident of Hardik’s return to fitness soon.

Absolutely (Hardik can regain his full fitness). Hardik is very keen on that. The retention calls usually take into consideration various aspects and angles. The debates are usually very long (laughs). It is not an easy process when you set yourself up for a big auction and say goodbye to all players with a heavy heart with whom you spent a lot of time and energy.

It was a hard decision for the team to select their final four retentions for this year’s IPL.

And with the arrival of two new teams into the fray- Lucknow, and Ahmedabad, it will be interesting to note which of the two franchises will select Hardik in their draft pool.

The new franchises have a rule of selecting three non-retained players into their franchise ahead of the Mega Auctions.

Pandya is by far one of the best all-rounders with 1476 runs and 42 wickets in 96 matches so far in the IPL.

Zaheer Khan’s statement on India lacking a left-arm pacer in the team

Zaheer believes there is a lot of talent in domestic cricket and India may find a left-arm pacer in due course of time.

There are plenty of good talents in the circuit. It is just about the timing. Maybe the wait is a little longer (laughs). If you have that kind of option (left-arm pace), it’s a luxury. But you need to get someone ready to play at the highest level.
