Mane exit led to Liverpool problem – Paul Merson

Liverpool regrets selling Sadio Mane claims former English footballer Paul Merson.

Paul Merson believes that selling Sadio Mane was not a wise decision and Reds would buy him back if there’s an opportunity in the future.

The former Arsenal star told Sportskeeda:-

“I’ve been saying it from the start – selling Sadio Mane was a bad decision. If he came up for sale again, they’d buy him back in an instant,”

“He was a massive part of that team and he didn’t get the credit he deserved.

“Liverpool sold one of their best players for hardly any money and it’s coming back to bite them.”

The Senegalese star scored 120 goals in total from his 269 matches, helping the club to win the Champions league in 2019 and also winning the Premier League in 2020 after a long break of 30 years.

Liverpool’s attack has looked distraught for most of the season as Salah looked far away from his best and new arrivals Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez continue to find their feet in the famous red shirt. Reds are missing Mane their frontline this season.

A significant drop in form have caused a huge problem for Klopp’s side, especially after last season’s heroic. Struggling to win matches, Liverpool looks in great danger.

Earlier in the season Klopp spoke about the departure of Mane – and didn’t want it to come across as he was missing him. Klopp told Sky Germany :-

“A good guy and a top player. But missing it sounds like I still want him here. I think it’s really okay that Mane just wanted to do something different,”
