Daniel Ricciardo has cleared that it is all but confirmed now that he won’t be on the grid in 2023.
After the moves from Pierre Gasly and Nyck de Vries, it is all but certain that Ricciardo is running out of options in 2023.
Now, only two possible berths remain for 2023 – one with Williams and the other with Haas F1.
McLaren axed Ricciardo after a string of poor performances and the Aussie has failed to secure any seat so far.
Now, Ricciardo has also come out to announce his uncertain future publicly.
When asked by the reporters about the move of Pierre Gasly to Alpine, Ricciardo replied:
“To be honest, the Gasly news I was aware of. I knew they were talking for a while and I knew they were very interested in Pierre, so I would say I was prepared for that and no surprise.
“We were trying to navigate our way round that and figure out what was next, but I think the reality now is I won’t be on the grid in ’23.
“I think it’s now just trying to set-up for ’24,”
added the eight-time race winner.
“I think there could be some better opportunities then, so that’s really what all this confirms and now where the sights are set.”
Earlier, Ricciardo was linked with a possible role as a reserve driver with Mercedes or Red Bull.
“Certainly the plan is still to be involved in F1,”
said Ricciardo.
“and this is kind of like just hitting pause for a little bit. That’s the way I see it as far as my F1 career goes.”
