Journalist reports Chelsea can have a changed stance on the summer transfer window – Have a look!

Pochettino

Simon Phillips has highlighted on the strategic move that Chelsea will adapt for this summer transfer window. The Blues have been among the top spenders in the English Premier League in the recent windows. However, they are still immensely far from success even after such balance sheet.

Chelsea spent big again in the previous summer transfer window. They even smashed the recently set club record on a deal to sign Moises Caicedo. Moreover, other players like Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer were also recruited. It was a very clear cut strategy for the West Londoners to bring the players under 25 years of age and build a young squad. This even made them pay price by letting some exceptional talents like James Maddison slip out of their hands.

Chelsea to approach transfer window with a novel outlook

Phillips has claimed though that Chelsea are looking to alter this from now, opening them up to a whole new avenue of potential signings. He said,

“As plans ramp up for the summer transfer window, I understand that the ‘U25 rule’ that Chelsea had in place will now be scrapped going forward. But now, two sources have confirmed to me that they will no longer be following this as gospel.

However, the general strategy is to have a young squad and they will still be looking at younger players. But the key difference is, that if a player they want to sign happens to be 26 or even higher, they will still be pushing.”

This approach can pave way for some top striker signings like Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen. Chelsea is currently in a desperate need of proven marksman in front of goal and the two are on the radar . However, Toney is expected to be the obvious target as he has some Premier League experience under his belt. Be sure to keep a close eye on it!
