Guenther Steiner updates about the 2023 Haas seat decision

Guenther Steiner

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has provided an update on the 2023 Haas F1 seat dilemma.

Haas and Williams are the only two available seats for the upcoming season. Given, how Williams has already decided to offer their seat to Logan Saergant if he succeeds to get his super license, it leaves only one empty seat i.e., with Haas.

The seat is up for grabs and it is a two-way fight for the seat. The contendors are Nico Hulkenberg and Mick Schumacher. The speculations are looming for over a month now but no official announcement is made yet.

Now, Haas boss Guenther Steiner has once again provided an update on who will join the forces with Kevin Magnussen in 2023. Steiner indicated that the announcement can come as early as next week although it is not definitive.

Ahead of the Brazilian GP, Steiner said:

“I think we can wrap it up pretty quickly.

“Hopefully next week we can announce something, whatever we’re doing.

“Hopefully, that’s my objective, but I don’t promise it. I hope before [Abu Dhabi]. When I say, ‘I hope,’ it’s not a fact.”

“[A decision hasn’t been made]. It’s imminent. I’m pretty busy at the moment… We want to make sure that we take the right decision,”

added Steiner.

Mick Schumacher has seen a return in form although he remains behind his teammate in the championship. Further, unforced errors are affecting Schumacher’s run this season. Most recently in the Mexican GP during qualifying.

In the end, It’s the battle between two Germans for the final seat of 2023. Both Hulkenberg and Schumacher have different features to offer for the team. It is Steiner who decides which qualities he wants more for the team.
