WPL Auction 2023: Smriti Mandhana, Ashleigh Gardner fetch top buys

WPL Auction 23: A total of 87 players went to their teams getting a total amount of 59.50 crores. In the first-ever WPL Auction, the Indian vice-captain was the most expensive player of the auction. However, of the total of 467 names only 87 sold in the auction.

Indians in WPL Auction

 Deepti Sharma joined UP Warriorz for a price of Rs 2.60 crore. India’s match-winner Jemimah Rodrigues was sold for Rs 2.20 crore, and Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shefali Verma joined DC for Rs 2 crore. Indian wicket-keeping batter Richa Ghosh was roped in by RCB for a price of Rs 1.90 crore. The upcoming all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar joined the Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.90 crore.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was roped in by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.80 crore, fast-bowler Renuka Singh got into RCB for a price of Rs 1.5 crore. Mumbai Indians further went to Rs 1.5 crore for Yastika Bhatia. Devika Vaidya joined the UP Warriorz for Rs 1.4 crore.

Overseas Players in Auction

The top bids included Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner fetching Rs 3.20 crore from Gujrat Giants. However, England’s allrounder Natalie Sciver also went for same price sold for Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.20 crore. Australia’s Beth Mooney went for Rs 2 crore and joined GG, and England’s Sophie Ecclestone sold to UP Warriorz for Rs 1.80 crore. Australia’s Ellyse Perry taken by RCB for Rs 1.70 crore.

However, the auction plays a huge role but it is all up to the team’s performance to go out and win it for the team. We have seen a strongest team not qualifying for the knockouts.
