Jemimah World

Jemimah Rodrigues, 22, will be one of the most sought-after players in the next Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. The Indian batter made her international debut in 2018 and has scored 1575 runs in 75 Twenty20 International matches. She has also scored 394 runs in 21 One-Day Internationals for India.

She recently opened up about her early hardships in Mumbai and what she is looking forward to in the first WPL season. The 22-year-old described her childhood love of cricket and what prompted her to pursue it.

Jemimah Rodrigues’s thoughts

“I just loved playing cricket, and all I wanted to do was that. So, wherever we would get players, you know – a lot of times we didn’t have grounds at that time – especially for a girl playing cricket in India was pretty odd at that time. I would not say it’s not happening. But I personally and my dad, who was my coach, didn’t know that women’s cricket existed. I just played for the pure joy of playing cricket,”

Rodrigues was quoted as saying on JioCinema.

“I’m sure it’ll be something special.”

Rodrigues’ thoughts on the WPL auction.

Rodrigues spoke out about a number of issues, including her childhood idol, famed Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar. She also expressed her excitement for the inaugural WPL auction, which is set to take place on February 13.

Talking about the same, she said,

“We have always watched the men’s IPL and how the auctions are going to be. I was already glued to it and it is very exciting. So, we always imagine what it would be like for us to experience that kind of moment, but we have not experienced that yet because it has not yet happened. But when it happens, I’m sure it’s going to be special because it’s the first edition of the WPL.”
