Liverpool pulls out of the race to sign Josko Gvardiol

Liverpool

Liverpool have opted out of the race for RB Liepzig defender Josko Gvardiol due to his expensive price tag, according to reports.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool no longer consider Gvardiol as “top target” for next season because club heirarchy believe that his valuation is too high. RB Liepzig are considering value of £80m for the Croatian Defender, which includes add-ons and bonuses. Liverpool board thinks the price is ” unrealistic”.

Gvardiol was termed as “gladiator” by journalist Ryan Taylor for his exploits in the World Cup 2022. He has won 16 tackles in 22 attempts this season.

Due to which Liverpool have shifted their interest towards other possible options. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka and Chelsea’s Levi Colwell as other alternatives in the summer.

However, Gvardiol is getting interest from other Premier League clubs. Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in him and wants to sign him in the summer.

Former footballer John Barnes Liverpool to not go for the Croatian Centre-back in the summer. He said in BonusCodeBeats:-

“Josko Gvardiol was very good at the World Cup but I don’t necessarily think that we need him right now. We have Joe Gomez, Ibrahim Konate, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and they are very good players. So, it’s not at the centre-back position that we need new players.

“He (Gvardiol) would be a very good addition. He has a lot of qualities and he is strong. Gvardiol is a fantastic player who is very agile and mobile. I think he would be able to do a good job for Liverpool. But again, we can’t rely on individual quality. Even if we bring new players in, the team has to make them look good and not the other way around.”
