Barcelona have fallen in love with former Man City player Ilkay Gundogan. The German midfielder joined Barcelona on a free transfer this summer. According to AS, who cover the German today told how Xavi is delighted to have Gundogan on his side. Furthermore, Xavi adores him by saying someone who brings ‘experience, hierarchy and talent.’
Barcelona manager praised Gundogan in a post-match press conference following his 5-0 victory over Antwrep. Xavi quoted that “Gundogan has fallen to us from the sky.” This quote furthermore shows the zeal of a coach who has seen his side develop quickly from last year, aided by the arrival of Gundogan from Manchester City. The 33-year old German is a mature player with strong tactical vision. He has worked under the managers like Klopp, Tuchel and Guardiola and that experience is clearly visible on the pitch.
Gundogan has already registered three assists and earned the love of his manager. The boss describes him as ‘superlative’ and has always praised him whenever he got a chance. Another big advantage of him on the pitch is his leadership skills. Ilkay is more of a “silent leader” both on and off the pitch and happy to hide among the masses and let others shine. He played in both, the pivot and the playmaker roles against Antwrep. This led Barcelona to a huge victory. He appears to have settled his boots in his new side and adapted Xavi’s ideas quickly. It seems like Gundogan has picked up from where he left off at Manchester City and has earned the love of Xavi in the process.
