Chelsea at crossroads with Antonio Rudiger

Chelsea continues their attempts at convincing centre-half Antonio Rudiger to pen a new deal at Stamford Bridge. The German’s contract runs out in June 2022.

The defender seems to be stalling over the club’s offer of a new £140,000-a-week contract. If unsuccessful, Chelsea could lose Rudiger on a free transfer next summer.

The impasse has alerted Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus. Teams can begin talks with the German in January when his Chelsea contract will have six months remaining.

Chelsea face predicament over Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger has emerged as one of the team’s best performers since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel. He desires that the club acknowledge his form.

The German international currently pockets around £100,000 a week. However, he could easily draw more than double that by transferring on a free to one of Chelsea’s European rivals.

The whole situation leaves Chelsea with a tough choice – increase the offer or risk losing Rudiger for free at the end of the season.

Rudiger is fully aware that this will likely be his last big contract. Hence, the ex-Roma man will bide his time over making this crucial decision.

The defender lost his place under former boss Frank Lampard. He was even made available for transfer at one point. Since then, Rudiger has turned around his Stamford Bridge career around and is now loved by the fans.

At the present moment, Rudiger, by all accounts, wants to focus on his performance on the pitch.

The German has played each and every minute of Chelsea’s 2021-22 campaign to date. This also includes a full 120 minutes of the UEFA Super Cup tie against Villarreal in August.
