Formula 1’s governing body FIA has announced penalties for Pierre Gasly after his incident with the tractor at the Japanese GP.

FIA slammed Pierre Gasly with a post-race penalty following the tractor incident at the Japanese GP.

Pierre Gasly was forced to start the race from the pits following some repairs in his AlphaTauri. However, the Frenchman caught some debris on the opening lap due to Carlos Sainz’s opening lap crash into the barriers.

The Frenchman once again ended up in the pits for removing the debris. A safety car was already deployed as Gasly went into the pits. Afterward, Gasly raced to catch up with the pack as the race got red flagged eventually.

It is now known that Gasly was speeding to catch up with the pack ahead of him. However, the race was red flagged meaning he was speeding a bit too much.

Gasly came dangerously close to hitting the crane later claiming he almost died. As videos surfaced everyone was reminded of the horrors of the 2014 Jules Bianchi crash.

Anyways, later it was found that Gasly breached Article 57.2 of the Sporting Regulations. The article clearly states that cars should return to the pit lane slowly in the event of a red flag.

However, Gasly’s AlphaTauri was found way over the speed. The car was recorded moving at a speed of 251 kph while passing the crane.

As a result, Gasly was given a drive-through penalty for speeding which was later converted to 20 seconds addition in race time.

He was also awarded 2 penalty points on his super license.

Gasly also admitted later that he was moving too fast given the fact there could have been debris or marshals on the track under those conditions.
