Former Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo admits he had no idea about Oscar when he arrived

Former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo reveals that he did not know anything about Oscar. Though, it was during the time of Matteo when Oscar joined the Blues. He told the ‘Obi One’ Podcast that the addition of Oscar from Brazil came without him having any real knowledge of the player. Although, Matteo’s tenure at Chelsea was short but was unforgettable. He secured a FA Cup and a first-ever Champions League at Stamford Bridge. The Blues also witnessed the arrivals of players like Eden Hazard and Cesar Azpilicueta who later on became legends for the club.

However, Oscar was the one even the former manager admits was a surprise. He said,

“Oscar, I didn’t know much about Oscar. He was from the recruitment side, he was brought forward and I think he was going to be more of one for the future.

But I put him in and thought wow he’s a good player, not that I was surprised. Really good player, really good guy.”

The Brazilian was a pretty fair signing though. He delivered some great moments for the fans to enjoy before a move to China. Though, he always talks with great admiration about his time at Stamford Bridge saying he will love to make a comeback. He is currently playing for Shanghai FC with a pretty decent record of goals and assists than his total appearances. Chelsea currently sit in the mid-table after a 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United at St James Park.
