Reports state that Liverpool are keen on signing Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi has registered just 2 appearances for the Blues since the start of the new campaign. Those came in the Super Cup victory over Villarreal and the 3-0 win over Aston Villa nine days ago.
He was not in the squad that beat Tottenham 3-0 to claim top spot in the Premier League on Sunday. The winger surely has struggled for minutes so far this term.
Chelsea want to hold on to Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi was deployed at right wing-back for the home clash against Villa, Chelsea’s first game after the transfer window.
With the win over Spurs on Sunday, it clear he must fight to carve out a place in Tuchel’s starting XI.
The winger also did not feature towards the end of last season. This included all of the Blues’ Champions League games from the quarter-finals right to the final in Porto.
The Englishman faces heavy competition from Mount, Havertz, Werner, Ziyech and Pulisic for a place Romelu Lukaku. On the other side, Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James are Tuchel’s favoured options at right wing-back.
The 20-year-old was strongly linked with a loan move to Borussia Dortmund towards the end of the summer transfer window. However, Tuchel affirmed that it was “impossible” for the club to depart with him.
Despite Tuchel ruling out a summer move, speculation has continued over Hudson-Odoi’s future. Liverpool boss Klopp has expressed his interest in the youngster. The Merseyside giants were also in for Hudson-Odoi in summer 2019 before the England international penned a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
After the match against Villa, Tuchel spoke out :”We have spoken. It was a very easy decision for me to make on the last day of the transfer period“.
“We cannot let a player who is in the 18/19 man squad leave. He is able to play as a right wing-back, a left wing-back, in the two 10 positions.“
It is quite unlikely that the Blues would allow their winger to move to one of their title rivals. Chelsea currently stand neck and neck with Liverpool at the top of the table.
