Manchester United to make an improved bid for Branthwaite

Neville

Manchester United made a move for the Everton defender, Jarrad Branthwaite, but their initial offer was rejected. Branthwaite has been a top priority target for Man Utd for a while and they are going to make an improved bid for him. The 21-year-old was efficient for Everton’s back line last season. Moreover, if he comes to Manchester United, he will not only be an option for Ten Hag but could also become a key player for the Red Devils’ defense. According to ex Millwall goalkeeper, Bryan King, the clubs will eventually reach an agreement over £50 million for the English man.

While speaking to Goodison News, Bryan King said,

“I don’t think it was a mistake for Everton to reject the offer. I think it was a cheeky bid from Manchester United.”

“As I see it, the final agreement will be £50million plus add-ons. If he becomes a regular international, how many appearances he makes for the club etc.”

-added the ex-Millwall goalkeeper.

Manchester United had so many backline combinations last season due to injury struggles. The United manager, Erik Ten Hag was left with no option but to shuffle players. Thus, Branthwaite’s addition to Old Trafford could be helpful to United’s defense.

Man Utd are not the only club eyeing Branthwaite

Along with Manchester United, another club interested in Branthwaite is Manchester City. The 21-year-old was exceptional last season. He made 35 Premier League appearances for the Toffees and managed to net three goals. Additionally, the attacking threat Branthwaite poses as a defender could be a key aspect for Ten Hag. Manchester United ended their league season with an eighth-spot finish and a negative goal difference. Ten Hag will be looking to reinforce their defense and the Everton man is an ideal option for him. However, Manchester City are also in the race to sign him. Although Man United are ahead in the race, a cheeky bid from the Blues could topple the situation. However, only time will tell the amount of money Everton will accept to let the 21-year-old go.

Selling the young defender could help the Toffees free up some funds

Everton initially received a 10-point deduction, later reduced to 6, for breaking the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Moreover, they lost another two points for a breach in 2022/23. The Toffees only managed to stay in the Premier League due to their performances in the last few games. However, Everton would have ended their season in a better position had they not gotten the point deductions. The Toffees would have a 13th-place finish instead of the 15th, without the deduction. Everton’s financial problems put them in a risky situation going into the next season. Therefore, the club will have to sell some of their star players to free up some money to avoid docking points in the future. Selling Branthwaite might be ideal for the Toffees depending on the bid they receive for him. Additionally, two Everton players who are gaining attraction from other clubs are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Amadou Onana.
