Manchester United keen to focus on transfers as Ten Hag sets to stay

Manchester United and INEOS have confirmed Erik Ten Hag stay at Old Trafford for the upcoming season. Despite under heavy controversy, INEOS’ vote of confidence in Ten Hag is a good news to many United fans.

Following a calamitous season in the Premier League, Ten Hag was walking on thin ice. Especially, considering the Red Devils’ worst ever league finish on the 8th place. Moreover, the defense was in shambles conceding 80+ goals in all competitions this season.

However, Ten Hag never had United’s best XI at his disposal all the time. Around 65 separate cases of injuries and absentees forced the 54-year old’s hands to pick alternatives to alternatives. United would end the league failing to qualify for European football. Their only hope would be winning against the favorites Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

And Erik Ten Hag delivered a masterclass when it mattered. The Red Devils would go on to beat Manchester City 2-1 clinching the silverware. Consequently, also qualifying for the Europa League next season ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle.

Additionally, INEOS had a difficult decision to make after Ten Hag’s massive win. The United hierarchy wanted to consider the overall season under the Dutchman and evaluate. Eventually, an official announcement confirming Ten Hag’s stay would be made on Tuesday.

United confirm manager: Ten Hag’s frustration with INEOS

Despite clinching the FA Cup, Ten Hag’s position at United was all but confirmed. INEOS were seriously considering replacements for the manager.

Manchester United would hold talks with Kieran Mckenna as the next manager at the Theatre of Dreams. However, Mckenna chose to stay at Ipswich Town and signed a new long term deal instead.

Former Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel was viewed as another potential replacement by INEOS. But, Tuchel ended up deciding to take a break this summer altogether. Moreover, several other managers were in consideration to succeed at Old Trafford. Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Marco Silva and Mauricio Pochettino were some other probable candidates.

INEOS were right to take their time and make the best possible decision for the Red Devils. However, Ten Hag’s frustration amidst lack of clarity was understandable. Especially, since the Manchester Reds won’t make any changes to the roster before confirming their manager.

Luckily, INEOS’ vote of confidence in Ten Hag means that the Red Devils may hope to find some level of stability in the upcoming campaign. The 54-year old will be keen to sort out his squad as quickly as possible and prepare for the upcoming American Tour of Manchester United.

The Red Devils eye the transfer window: Defense is the priority!

Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag will be keen to reinforce the backline. Especially, after the horrors of the previous season. Everton centre-back, Jarrad Branthwaite, is considered as a suitable option for the Red Devils.

Moreover, reports indicate that Branthwaite is open to Old Trafford move. However, Everton are unhappy with United’s £45-50 million valuation of Branthwaite. The Red Devils will be hoping to iron out the deal as soon as possible.

Additionally, Jean Clair-Todibo is another top target for United. Furthermore, Leny Yoro can also be an interesting alternative for the Red Devils.

An Old Trafford move awaits Bologna striker?

While defense remains a top priority, Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag need more squad depth and quality players up-front. Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee seems to have INEOS’ interest.

Although Rasmus Hojlund has been good, the Dane is still quite young and unexperienced. The 21-year old has his best years ahead of him. Zirkzee has been excellent with Bologna this season helping the Serie A side to a Champions League place.

However, reports suggest that the 23-year old will be making a move to AC Milan instead with personal terms already agreed. The Red Devils may have to explore alternatives up front.
