Manchester United want to sign another forward after Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is looking to make several changes in the squad this summer. The new owner along with his INEOS group will be looking over the football operations at Old Trafford. Despite signing Rasmus Hojlund recently, Manchester United are looking to sign another forward. Manchester United are ready to spend money on a target that will give the team more attacking options.

The club is eager to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 25-year-old displayed sheer brilliance this season with 14 goals across all competitions. Although Wolves will not want to sell him, Sir Ratcliffe’s willingness of spending a huge amount on him can be a key factor. Moreover, Wolves can free up some money and protect themselves from breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules if they get big money for Cunha.

How can Matheus Cunha help Manchester United’s attack?

Although Rasmus Hojlund has proved his worth in his first season at Old Trafford, he restricts himself to only scoring goals and not as a chance creator. Alejandro Garnacho was one of the game makers for United this season, however, the Red Devils want a more experienced player. Additionally, Cunha partnership with Marcus Rashford may also play a significant role in Man United’s attack. Along with Cunha’s 12 goals in the Premier League, the Wolves’ star also has seven assists to his name. The Brazilian’s performance this season has caught the eyes of several football pundits and clubs. Cunha’s ability to play clinically as a forward and his skills made him a significant player for Wolves.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to pay double for the Wolves forward

Matheus Cunha’s contract with Wolves is until 2027. However, amidst interest from Old Trafford, the forward could be seen making a move. Man United are also keeping a watch on RB Leipzig’s forward, Benjamin Sesko. However, according to sources, Sir Ratcliffe is ready to pay double the amount for Cunha. With the Wolves currently valuing him at £60k per week, a move to Old Trafford will see his wages go upto £120k-a-week. However, with the forward still having loads of time on his contract at Molineux it will be a tough job for Manchester United to tempt Wolves to sell him.

Ex-Wolves manager was impressed with the Brazilian’s performance

The former Wolverhampton manager and new West Ham manager, Julen Lopetegui praised Cunha after his excellence this season. Lopetegui said that Cunha’s versatility makes him a special player.

While speaking to Planet Sport, the West Ham manager said,

“The most important thing is that he’s a complete player. We’ve talked about this and I think that we can use him in different situations.”

Lopetegui further added,

“He’s a forward, of course, but it depends on our way to play, he can play in the middle as an attacking forward, as a second forward or maybe in the wing. We are going to change depending on the situation with him, but that’s normal for the kinds of players we have.”

A move for the 25-year-old to old Trafford will be massive, however, it won’t be easy for the Red Devils to get Wolves to let go. Additionally, with him becoming a significant player for Wolves this season, he himself may want to continue his stay at the Molineux.
