Nyck de Vries to drive for Mercedes in the upcoming race

Nyck de Vries

Nyck de Vries is all set to hit the track again in a Formula 1 car after Mercedes confirms his return.

Nyck de Vries recently signed with AlphaTauri and Red Bull for the 2023 season marking his end with the Mercedes outfit. De Vries is currently a reserve driver for the Silver Arrows.

Nevertheless, we are all set to witness De Vries hit the track again in a Formula 1 car.

Even after knowing the fact that De Vries will be heading to rival red bull’s sister team, Mercedes has continued to provide an FP1 drive to De Vries as per young driver session allocation.

The Dutchman will be replacing George Russell in the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff confirmed the return:

“Nyck will be replacing George in FP1 this weekend as part of the young driver session allocation,”

said Wolff.

“We are excited to see him back in the W13 and seeing how he performs.”

De Vries earlier replaced Hamilton during the first free practice in the French Grand Prix. FIA has mandated teams to give at least two free practice sessions to young drivers who haven’t driven in F1 yet. So, Mercedes will be completing the second stint on Friday.

De Vries is classed as a “young driver” even after having a lot of motorsports experience. The 27-year-old has already won Formula 2 and Formula E World Championships.

He came into the limelight after his incredible debut drive in the 2022 Italian Grand Prix with Williams racing. The Dutchman secured P9 outscoring his teammate Nicholas Latifi and scoring points on debut.
