William Gallas claims Thiago Silva might have his last season at Chelsea

Chelsea

William Gallas feels that Thiago Silva is playing with a perspective of this being his last season at Chelsea. The veteran centre-back has proved his worth at Stamford Bridge in the last three years winning a UEFA Champions League for the London based club. Originally, Frank Lampard was the reason for his arrival at Chelsea. Lampard signed the Brazilian defender as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain during his managerial tenure.

Despite the often chaotic environment at Chelsea, Silva’s experience and class have been invaluable to a succession of managers who have relied on his leadership to steer the club through various difficult periods. The 38 year-old defender signed a new deal back in February. However, the deal expires at the end of this season. This may leave Silva with a belief about his time at Stamford Bridge is over. Moreover, he is not also likely to fit in the future plans of Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas said;

Thiago Silva knows that it is going to be a very difficult season for him. He knows that this is his last season, and he doesn’t have the right support around him.’

‘A player like Thiago Silva, who is thirty-eight-years-old, normally would be looking to the younger players to lift him, to help him with their quality. Chelsea doesn’t have that quality at the moment.’

It looks like he has to manage everything at the back. During the game against Bournemouth, he was trying to explain to the midfield where they have to go when he has the ball. That shouldn’t be happening.
