Chelsea fans love nothing more than a wonderkid. At present, the latest name floating around is Estevao Willian. This 16-year-old Brazilian winger, nicknamed ‘Messinho’, has already become the latest touted next big thing. It is a bit too soon for us to print his name over and over on our 2026 Chelsea kits.
Yeah, he’s a fantastic player, very fast, very skillful, he has that Brazilian flair… Watching with a samba beat goes with the football. Yet Chelsea’s record with hyped teenagers is hardly spotless (remember Gael Kakuta?) If Estevao does make the move, he will need time, patience and a manager who actually plays him and not claim him for five years and loan him to some obscure Dutch club.
Chelsea’s Almost-Signed Superstars
Franck Ribery in his prime could have been Chelsea’s. Thinking of him as tearing up Premier League defences alongside Drogba and Lampard! Unfortunately, however, that deal collapsed like a house of cards in a windstorm.
Then there was John Terry, who was also secretly influencing transfer moves behind the scenes. (There is nothing JT has not done for Chelsea?) He’s been through the rumor mill and helped bring signings in; he almost toppled others.
The Never-Ending Goalkeeper Debate
Kepa? Petrovic? A random guy from the Sunday League? The entire transfer story is as confusing as our goalkeeping situation. I’m not convinced that some fans want Djordje Petrovic to be our number one next season. He’s solid enough, but if Chelsea want to fight at the top, they need a world-class shot-stopper.
Our defense is already giving away free chances all over the place as if it’s sweeping for a charity drive, but the least we can do as a collective is have a goalkeeper who can withstand the madness.
Estevao Willian: A Star in the Making or Just Another Name?
Now, back to Estevao Willian. But it is massive hype; caution is needed. Not all young talents arrive as Mbappé does. Because Brazilian wonderkids do not always adapt quickly (Oscar?), the Premier League is a different animal. This was actually the case. Yeah, he ditched us for China.
Estevao needs to develop a proper plan with Chelsea. There will be no more wasting of young talent. If we signed him, we should actually use him.
