Bayern Munich Target Gabriel Martinelli over Another Gunner

Bayern Munich

German Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich have set their eyes on Arsenal left-winger Gabriel Martinelli. The club prefer the Brazilian international. While Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal teammate Leandro Trossard was heavily linked with Bayern, the club found Martinelli to be a better choice. Bayern Munich believe that after the inclusion of Noni Madueke from Chelsea, acquiring Martinelli is going to be much easier. But the whole transfer depends on what decision Arsenal make. As of now, there is no further development in this deal. Bayern Munich are yet to make an official bid.

Why Bayern Munich are Interested in Martinelli?

For certain reasons, Bayern Munich have shortlisted Gabriel Martinelli as a potential target. After the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, Leroy Sane has left Bayern Munich to join Turkish club Galatasaray on a permanent move. Now, Vincent Kompany’s team is in a constant search for a proper left-winger. Recent reports have claimed Bayern’s interest in Martinelli. The 24-year-old winger has represented Arsenal in 51 matches last season. The Bavarians need a player who is comfortable on both flanks. Martinelli can also operate as a second striker. Kompany typically uses a traditional front three in his team with former Spurs captain Harry Kane as the box striker. Gabriel Martinelli is certainly a decent option if the team plays in the 4-3-3 formation. Bayern Munich still have footballers like Gnabry and Kingsley Coman as options. But the club think that they are no longer able to play a full 90-minute match. Martinelli is renowned for his fast inside cuts while counter-pressing the opponent. He is also someone who doesn’t feel shy about coming to the defense. A track-back winger is all Bayern Munich need in their squad.

All You Need to Know About Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli arrived on the map of football out of nowhere. He wasn’t like other Brazilian wonderkids who created worldwide hype. He began his career at Ituano Futebol Clube (SP). Arsenal scouted him back in 2019. At Ituano, Martinelli registered 6 goals and 2 assists in 17 appearances. Since joining the Gunners, the Brazilian has bagged 51 goals and 29 assists in 225 matches. He has been playing some quality football for some years now. Moreover, Martinelli has given solidity to Arteta’s Arsenal. In the 2022-23 season, he scored 15 goals for Arsenal in the Premier League. That year, he emerged as the joint highest goal scorer for his club. In this season, Martinelli has 10 goals and 6 assists to his name, though. But football pundits believe that Martinelli still has a lot to offer. The player is still in the peak of his career.

Another Premier League Winger is on Bayern’s Radar

A huge club like Bayern Munich always keep a plan B in their process. The Bundesliga Champions had Leandro Trossard on their list but the German club has backed off. For some days, Bayern Munich showed serious interest in buying Portuguese winger Rafael Leao from Italian side AC Milan. Manchester United were also in the race. But AC Milan have no intention of selling their poster boy. Apart from Gabriel Martinelli, Bayern Munich have already enquired about Liverpool’s Colombian winger, Luis Diaz. La Liga holders, Barcelona, are also in the fray. But Liverpool are showing a dilemma in entertaining any offers for the player. But Bayern are pushing for negotiation. It will be hard to ignore if Bayern offer €70 million for Luis Diaz. As things stand, talks are yet to take place between the clubs.

Author’s Note: Bayern Munich’s Stance on Martinelli

As getting Luis Diaz from the Reds is more difficult than getting Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal, Bayern Munich are still behind the Brazilian. The Brazilian international still has two years left on his contract. Moreover, Martinelli is still very much in the plans of Mikel Arteta. But if Bayern Munich finally decides to go after him, Martinelli has to think twice before making a decision. At this point, Gabriel Martinelli is still a Gunner.
