Arsenal Winger Reiss Nelson is Next on the List to Leave

Arsenal FC

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is in high demand as Premier League club Fulham have set their eyes on the player. Fulham want to reload Nelson. Arsenal are also happy to offload the forward ahead of the upcoming season. In fact, the winger spent the last season at Fulham on loan. The 24-year-old English winger himself feels that his chances of getting into the first eleven are low at Arsenal. The player has also given the green signal. But Fulham are willing to get Nelson on another loan deal. Arsenal shouldn’t have any problem with the condition either. Right now, Arsenal and Fulham are in a hurry to seal the deal for Reiss Nelson as soon as possible. Arsenal have their pre-season tour coming to Asia. The Gunners expect to come to terms with Fulham before that.

All You Need to Know About Reiss Nelson

Reiss Nelson is a pure Arsenal youth academy product. He joined the Arsenal academy back in 2007 from his childhood club, Lewisham Borough. Then, he got promoted to the U-18 Arsenal team in 2015. In 2017, he made a loan move to TSG Hoffenheim. After 5 years of waiting, Nelson got his first call-up for the Arsenal first team in 2020. But he failed to hold his place and got loaned out again to Dutch club Feyenoord in the very next season. Since then, the player hasn’t been able to get back his place in Mikel Arteta’s squad. After the end of the loan spell at the Dutch club, Nelson barely managed to stay in the Arsenal roster for 2 seasons. Last season, Premier League club Fulham got him. It was once again a season-long loan deal. It seems that after all these years, he has still not managed to impress the Arsenal coaching staff. Fulham are confident in getting Reiss Nelson again as a loanee.

Fulham’s Reason Behind Re-signing Nelson

Nelson played for Fulham last season. But the player didn’t have a spectacular season. In his 12 matches, he just managed to score 2 goals and 1 assist. An untimely long-term injury sidelined Reiss Nelson for the rest of the season. Despite these below-average stats, Fulham coach likes Nelson. That’s why Fulham are once again interested in bringing the Arsenal footballer. If Nelson joins Fulham, the Cottagers will make their first move in this ongoing summer transfer window. Nelson himself is eager to join the team as he likes Fulham coach Marco Silva’s tactics. The negotiations are advancing in a positive way. Arsenal are most likely to loan him out with an option of buy-back. Along with this, Arsenal are making sure that the deal does not turn out to be a dry loan.

Nelson Has No Place in Arsenal’s Wing Overload

In the current squad, it is realistically tough for Reiss Nelson to crack the main team. Arsenal already have wingers like Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka. Moreover, Noni Madueke has also just become the new Gunner after leaving Chelsea during the FIFA Club World Cup. The club from North London also believe that Nelson will grow more at Fulham with valuable game time. Along with Nelson’s departure, players like Zinchenko and Sambi Lokonga are on the verge of ending their stories with Arsenal.

Author’s Opinion: Arsenal’s Negligence over Nelson

Many fans find that Arsenal are not giving enough push in Reiss Nelson’s career. Being an Arsenal academy graduate, the club needs to give Reiss Nelson a second chance. But this has been the case over the years. Numerous academy players leave their parent club just to get enough game time. For instance, Martin Odegaard left Real Madrid. Later on, the Norwegian is now the captain of the Gunners. There is no doubt in Nelson’s capability. The talented winger just needs to regain his form. Arsenal should either give him another contract extension or the club should sell him on a permanent deal.
