In an interview after the game, the Irish pundit opined that Eze was overly cautious and risk-averse on the ball.

Keane described that international football is not all about being catered but getting recognized. “You don’t get many opportunities at this stage,” continued Keane to describe how Eze had to work harder and demonstrate more energy.
With England dominating possession and recording an easy win, Keane was concerned with the individual performance. He acknowledged Eze is talented but asked if he wishes to leave his footprint. For Keane, playing simply to hold possession and not commit errors is insufficient. He needs players to be accountable, to create opportunities, and to display character.

The remarks created outrage among supporters and commentators. Some were of Keane’s view, that Eze must be more of a risk-taker if he is to remain in the England team.
