Ruben Amorim Sack Saga – Closer than you think

Current Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has failed to produce results, and his failure has put him in the conversation for a possible sacking. The former Sporting Manager is under scrutiny and is weary of his future in the club especially after the defeat to Manchester City and also leading the Red Devils to their worst start to the campaign in ages. Fans demand quick and effective changes from the Red Devils manager and failing to do so may lead to him losing his job in England.

The Amorim Ball effect

Before joining Manchester United, Ruben Amorim came into the spotlight (for the good reasons) as he destroyed the teams in Portuguese League with Sporting CP. However, the highlight came in when he decimated Pep Guardiola Man City team in UCL and caused shockwaves worldwide. Manchester United was already under a tension between the higher ups and the manager Ten Hag and with his losing in big matches and important finals, United needed a new manager and fast. Thus, the club brought in Ruben Amorim, believing he could do what no other manager had done since Ferguson—restore their lost glory. With new signings and changes in tactics, Manchester United seemed to move on the right track. The destination was, however, something neither fans nor the club were expecting.

Ruben Amorim Sack Saga – The betrayal

United under Amorim has been miserable and it can even be considered as an understatement. With only 4 points in 4 league matches, the club is suffering from their worst start to the League since 1992/1993. This is followed by the fact that United were placed 15th in the league with lowest points and wins tally since the competition officially started. On top of it, the club also had to suffer a humiliating defeat in the Carabao Cup returning back from competition in second round after losing to League Two side Grimbsy Town in penalties. On paper the Portuguese manager record seems fairly average due to Europa League’s performance last season, yet till now Ruben Amorim is only responsible for only a mere 36 percent win rate in total.

Ruben Amorim Sack Saga – Final Nail in Coffin?

After the crushing defeat to their neighbours, Amorim faces increasing pressure from fans and the club. Reports say the board still supports him, but speculation grows that he could share Ten Hag’s fate if results don’t improve. Former Manchester City and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann even warned he might lose his job before Christmas. Amorim admits his shortcomings but remains firm in his process and philosophy. “There are a lot of things that you have no idea what happened during these months, but I accept that. But I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.“- Said Ruben Amorim after the match against City.

Author’s Opinion

The arrival of Ruben Amorim was not the fairy tale that fans were hoping for. The team still urgently needs top performances and greater match efficiency. However, the manager can still pull off and change the fortunes of the club if he is able to tie up a string of performances and eventually improve the quality of the squad and team. The coach understands his shortcomings which a good indicator is to show that he is not ignorant. However, the current situation pans out as such – Ruben has a sword hanging above his neck and only result in the right direction can save his execution from the team. Thus, the deal stands clear – kill or be killed, just like the law of the jungle.
