Following the defeat of United against City, a lot has happened and changed around the Manchester neighbourhood. From possible Ruben Amorim replacement to struggling with failing business and revenue, and from facing intense interest in Mainoo to broader uncertainty, United are going through tough times. Only time and fortune will reveal whether they can weather the storm.
Ruben Amorim replacement – ticking time bomb
Since the disastrous performance against City in the Manchester Derby, things are not well for Ruben Amorim . The Red Devils are at an all-time low and are having one of the worst starts to the season since the competition began. From losing on world class players like Donnarumma to issues in the financial sector, United times are tough. Amidst all this, Amorim’s lack of desire to change and his failure to deliver significant results on the pitch have fuelled conversations about his sacking. Reports suggest that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, former England boss Gareth Southgate, Fulham chief Marco Silva, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are being considered as potential replacements for the United job. The rumours however still suggest that Ruben does have support of the higher ups and thus, may actually continue his job and buy him a little bit more time.
The £12million alimony
Manchester United is in a deep sea of trouble – both on and off the pitch. Following a string of bad results and poor performances, fans and the club are having second thoughts on the manager Ruben Amorim and sack conversation has already taken shape. However, United itself got engulfed in this complex situation as the report states that the club is to pay £12million to Amorim in compensation if the manager is to be sacked before the first anniversary as the head coach. Thus, the only option for both of them is to play out the wait game.
The Kobbie Mainoo conundrum
Manchester United bright prospect – Kobbie Mainoo is currently going through a dry spell in his career. Following the blistering season he had last year, fans were expecting him to turn up in the party this season as well. However, things are not looking smooth at the moment. Only having currently 73 minutes of game – time under Amorim and supposedly having a rift with the manager, it is highly likely, his game – time will increase. A bright talent, indeed, fans demand that the boy should play, as he is one of the glimmers of hope in the Manchester squad. Although he could not prevent the humiliating Carabao Cup exit, he remains a useful asset and performed decently in the derby. What remains to be seen is whether the manager trusts him or whether another famous fallout is in the making.
Manchester United financials – Blessing in Disguise?
The club generated £164 million in revenue during the fourth quarter, contributing to a record total of £666.5 million for 2025 and offering some relief amidst recent concerns. Add to the fact that United finished 15th in the League last season with poor and abysmal performances for quite some time, it is no less than a miracle that the club was able to generate this much revenue. All this points out as to the influence and brand value the club still enjoys among the masses.
Author’s Opinion
Manchester United is certainly suffering from a grey patch of results and as such, it reflects badly on the club as a whole. Their inability to reach to their past heights have generated a negative atmosphere around the club. Bad decisions and rash ignorance have only added to the misery. A club of this stature, the only way to improve is to have a complete renovation and let go of old tactics and stabilize the club from inside and outside as well. A historic club with huge influence on the masses even to this day, only the right decisions from now will keep them afloat.
