Martin Odegaard Update: Return Date from Shoulder Injury

Arsenal FC

Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard has picked up a shoulder injury in the recent Premier League game against Nottingham Forest. He had to leave the match early after suffering the injury.
Arsenal have been hit by a number of injury problems in the early stages of the season with Bukayo Saka. And is still recovering from a hamstring injury that forced him off against Leeds. In his side’s second game of the season.

Who are sidelined with Martin Odegaard?

Kai Havertz is also sidelined following minor knee surgery while William Saliba has missed his side’s last two games after picking up an ankle sprain before the Liverpool game.

This isn’t a completely new issue. He has had shoulder problems before.  It is not thought to be as serious this time. According to injury expert Stephen Smith, it appears to be a minor issue with the acromioclavicular ligament, rather than something like a broken collarbone.

How Serious was the Injury?

Like with any ligament injury, he will either have a small amount of fibre disruption where it would be a grade 1. If there is a decent amount and there is lots of separation, it is grade 2 and if it was much worse than that, a grade 3, we would be talking about going in and having surgery. From the commentary we have heard [from Arsenal] they are not concerned at all about that.

A Potential Return Date for Odegaard

Smith has given a window for how long Odegaard might be out. He expects the midfielder could be sidelined for 7 to 14 days. Assuming things go well and he does not make things worse.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has also confirmed that Odegaard is unlikely to be sidelined for a long period. There is no indication that surgery will be needed. The club is treating this injury cautiously.

Author’s Insight

If all goes well, fans could see Odegaard back.  But this mainly depends on how he responds in recovery and training. Delaying return until he is fully fit is essential to avoid a repeat of his injury.
