Luke Shaw has agreed with Roy Keane’s criticism of him

Luke Shaw believes there is genuine hope now, after Manchester United’s win over Chelsea. Shaw admitted that Keane was right to highlight his recent poor performance, saying it stung — but that this reaction has given both him and United something to build on.

Undeniable Reality: Keane Was Right about Luke Shaw

After United’s 3–0 loss to Manchester City in the derby, Roy Keane was blunt. He said Shaw had “been getting away with murder for years,” pointing to injuries, lapses in fitness, and decisions on the field that made him look passive.  Shaw didn’t push back. Instead, he conceded that last week’s game was below his level, and that Keane’s words, though painful, were justified.

Shaw spoke with honesty. He said: “Of course it hurts. He’s got a lot of experience … I think criticism is part of being a football player … After the game, I knew that. … I’m not getting any younger … I need to be consistent.”

Hope from Chelsea Victory

The win over Chelsea at Old Trafford came at a crucial time. United beat Chelsea 2–1, despite both teams seeing red cards in a chaotic first half. Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was sent off early; United took advantage with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.  Casemiro was later sent off too, making the rest of the match tense. Chelsea pulled one back through Trevoh Chalobah, but United held on.

This win lifted United into the top half of the table — after a poor start and much scrutiny.  Manager Ruben Amorim urged his team to build momentum. He stressed that this win could be a turning point.

Looking Back at the Performance vs. Manchester City

Before the Chelsea match, United were thumped 3–0 by Manchester City. Shaw was singled out: for his positioning, for being beaten in key moments, and for not showing enough aggression. Keane’s criticism came in the aftermath of that game.  That match showed how much United still have to improve — defensively, tactically, and mentally. Shaw himself accepts that, acknowledging his mistakes.

What This Means Going Forward?

Shaw sees the Chelsea win as more than just three points. It is proof United can respond under pressure. He wants consistency. He knows criticism will follow if performances drop. But he also believes the team fought hard — showed bite, grit and that gives hope.

If United keep up that kind of fight, especially from players like Shaw, then perhaps the season can change course. This is a chance to build. And Shaw seems ready to take it.
