Chelsea Man Levi Colwill is Back on his Feet Again

Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill has been seen walking on his feet again after surgery for knee injury. But that does not automatically mean he is completely fit. Let’s examine what is known—and what is not.

What Happened to Levi Colwill at Chelsea?

While attending a pre-season training session in early August 2025, Colwill developed knee pain and was subsequently diagnosed with a ruptured ACL. Chelsea confirmed that the medical reports indicated surgery as the sole option. The club declared that the surgery was successful.

Since ACL injuries are unfortunate, Colwill will likely be sidelined for most of the 2025-26 season. It generally takes the majority of players from six to nine months to get over this type of injury. Chelsea also announced that he would start a course of rehabilitation and recovery work. He will be in the medical department at Cobham.

What about being “Spotted on his Feet”?

There have been press sightings that Colwill was “spotted taking a picture with a fan” post-surgery. He was standing or walking according to sources. Realistically, the type of spotting is likely only to record early. It was a limited movement—possibly with support or during minimal physiotherapy. It does not suggest that he is match-fit or cured. (No reliable major sport source reports that he has resumed training or play yet.)

Why it Matters to Chelsea?

Colwill was Chelsea’s first-choice centre-back last season, playing in all competitions 43 times. His absence creates a massive void at the back. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that players, either internally or via the transfer market, is required. Already the club already has other defenders available such as Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and new signing Jorrel Hato.

Author’s Insight

Yes, Levi Colwill has indeed “been seen” walking post-surgery. That is not, an indication he’s good to go and ready to come back. That standing or walking for a fan photo opportunity is just part of a lengthy recovery process. All we know for certain at this point is that, his surgery was successful. But he’ll be out for most of the current campaign for Chelsea.
