Introduction: Hugo Ekitike of Liverpool updates related to injury and upcoming matches
There have been recent claims that Hugo Ekitike could still be part of the upcoming away match for Liverpool to play Chelsea. Even though he was injured in their last match against Galatasaray. His well-being has become one of the biggest stories surrounding Slot’s side this week.
What the Recent News Implies for Liverpool
Liverpool’s official injury report sees Alisson Becker and Ekitike both leave the Galatasaray match with issues. Federico Chiesa did not make the trip to Turkey with a minor problem. “Hugo is training today again, and take a look at where he is, and so it is with Federico,” manager Arne Slot said before the Chelsea match.
Slot also said that Alisson will certainly not be available for selection for Saturday’s game. So he is out for Liverpool and international responsibility as well.
Further, reports from the media suggest that Ekitike’s problem is said to be thought to be cramp and not a serious muscular injury. It is hoped that he will return to training and possibly be added.
Liverpool sources have been tentatively hopeful that Ekitike survives the fitness session. He might be considered—on the bench, maybe, considering his condition.
Why This Matters for Liverpool
It would be a huge morale booster for Liverpool to have Ekitike in their kitty. He has been one of their most lively attacking threats till now. To lose him would only strain their attacking resource base. Given that new signing Alexander Isak is yet to get into his groove.
Even for the bench player. His legs and an explosion coming back on the counter would haunt a Chelsea defense that has been exposed at times.
But there is a risk involved. If his injury has not recovered completely. Putting him into action too soon could have aggravated the situation or curtailed his ability to play the match.
Author’s Opinion
With the news, I think Ekitike could quite possibly be in the frame for the team—not necessarily up to standard, but up to standard enough to play. The fact that Liverpool diagnosed his problem as potentially cramp (rather than a major muscle injury) is a good thing.
If Slot can provide his minutes on target, Ekitike can be a plus on the tactical aspect, particularly towards the end of the match. But Liverpool has to walk on eggshells. They do not need to risk one of their top forwards too soon in the season.
Unless Ekitike is to miss his final fitness test, it would be advisable to leave him behind rather than risk a worse injury. All indications are that he is likely to play.
