As Virat Kohli did not take part in the 2nd Test match against South Africa in Wanderers, citing reasons of having an upper back spasm as told by KL Rahul, it is now being speculated that he will also miss the three-match ODI series against the hosts as well.
In the report by the Republic, the fact is stated likewise. But, this news is quite speculated for some time now.
Apparently, Kohli has requested the BCCI to allow him to skip the ODI series as it collides with his daughter, Vamika’s birthday.
Kohli was ready to play his 100th Test in Cape Town
If Virat had played the 2nd Test match, he would have made his 100th Test match appearance for India. But, now he will have to wait till February for achieving this milestone.
The ODI series will start on 19th January 2022. The 2nd and 3rd matches will be played on the 21st and 23rd of January respectively.
Kohli is the 6th highest scorer in ODIs as he has made 12169 runs at an average of close to 60.
He is also the 2nd highest century-maker as he has 43 tons to his name. He last played an ODI on 28th March 2021 against England, in which he scored just 7 off 10 balls.
Development result of reeking animosity between Kohli and Rohit
According to some reports, it is being speculated that there might something be off in the Indian dressing room. In the past, there have been reports of animosity between Rohit and Kohli.
Over the years, the Indian dressing room has been fraught with egos. Be it Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavasakar, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virendra Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir. But that doesn’t mean that it has boiled over to what they go and do out there on the field. They’re professionals and are required to behave in a certain fashion at all times.

Giving an interview to News18, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told that he had personally asked Kohli to not leave the T20I captaincy. But, they didn’t want a split captaincy in limited-overs cricket and thus decided to hand over the entire responsibility to Rohit Sharma.
It’s like I said… I personally requested him (Kohli) not to give up the T20I captaincy. Obviously, he felt the workload. Which is fine, he has been a great cricketer, he has been very intense with his cricket. He has captained for a very long period of time and these things happen. Because I have captained for a long period of time; therefore I know. Also, they wanted only one white-ball captain. And that’s why this decision. I don’t know what’s going to happen in future. But as I said, it’s a good team and it has some fantastic players and I hope they will turn it around.
