Erik Ten Hag Looking Forward to Van de Beek Reunion

Incoming Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has revealed his excitement over the prospect of reuniting with Donny Van de Beek. The Dutch midfielder was a part of the historic Ajax team which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After making 175 appearances for the Eredivise giants, Van de Beek moved to Manchester United in 2020. His tenure there has been nothing short of dismal. However, e has been relegated to the role of a bench player by two managers now. A loan move to Everton was arranged, and that has not been the most impressive either. The arrival of Ten Hag has presented itself as a new opportunity for a fresh start though.

Ten Hag was the one who brought Van de Beek into the first team at Ajax. He thrived as a central midfielder, often making late runs into the box to score goals. He has a unique skill set which was perhaps not adequately utilized by Ole Gunnar Soljskaer and Ralf Ragnick. A coach who has had a good track record with him can certainly change this.

Ten Hag’s view on Van de Beek

On the occasion of his first press conference, the Dutchman was optimistic when asked about his former player. He was quoted saying:

Yes, of course, we had fantastic squad in that time at Ajax. I really had a good relationship with him and of course I am looking forward to meeting him again on the pitch.

Van de Beek is a superb player and it was not a pleasant sight seeing him devastated on the bench under Ole’s reign. He has a lot to offer, and hopefully, Ten Hag can revitalize him. Since an in-form player can be an extremely valuable asset for the Red Devils.
