According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea defender Malang Sarr is set to join AS Monaco on a loan move this season. Monaco and Chelsea have reached full agreement on the loan deal for Saar. The loan contract will also contain a buy obligation clause which will depend on the number of appearances made by Saar in the next season. The transfer fee for Sarr to permanently join Monaco is €15 million. Chelsea are making a profit on this as they acquired his services on a free transfer in 2020.

Malan Sarr has played 21 games for Chelsea last season across all competitions. The ex Nice player returns to France after a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge last season. Sarr joined Chelsea in 2020 on a free transfer. Moreover, upon his arrival, he was sent on a loan move to Porto. In the 2021-22 season, he stayed at Stamford in hopes of playing time at the Bridge. He played extensively as a left back and left centre back during injuries to Thiago Silva and Rudiger. However, he failed to make an impression on Thomas Tuchel last season. Now, Sarr has joined Monaco to get game time and hopefully earn his spot back in Chelsea

Moreover, Chelsea have signed new left back Marc Cucurella this summer. Ben Chilwell has also recovered sufficiently from his injury which ruled him out of the season last year. The reinforcements in the left back position means Sarr has slipped further down the pecking order at Chelsea defence. However, it is worth noting that Sarr is only 23 years of age. More game time at AS Monaco will help with his development as a player.

The Chelsea defender completes his medical

Fabrizio Romano has stated that the player has completed his first part of the medical with As Monaco. The second part of the medical will happen on Tuesday morning. Upon completion of his medical, Sarr will be unveiled as a player for Monaco

Matt Law has confirmed on Twitter that Sarr is undergoing his medical at Monaco. Law has further stated that the deal between Monaco and Chelsea also contains £3m in bonuses for the player.
