Chelsea has reportedly joined the race to sign Nuno Mendes from Portuguese giants Sporting CP. The 18-year-old defender has been a key player in the Lisbon club winning the Primeira Liga this season.
The Portuguese wonderkid is currently one of the best young talented defenders available in Europe. As a result, the big names in European club football are behind signing him.
The Blues have invested a lot of money in the youth and now, they could pull off a marvelous deal signing Mendes. But, it would be a costly option as he still has four more years left at his contract.

Nuno Mendes made his professional debut with the senior team of Sporting CP aged just 17 years. Since then, he had made 44 appearances for the Lions and has scored a goal in his career so far for them.
The wonderkid was recently featured for his national team aged 18 for three matches. Now, he had won a Primeira Liga and a Taca da Liga for the Green and Whites in the current season.
As per Portuguese media outlet Record, Chelsea has joined the race to sign him. However, the competition is tough as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Leicester City are ahead of them. Los Blancos are currently the favorites to sign him as they consider Mendes as a long-term replacement for Marcelo.
Arsenal and AC Milan were also interested from the very beginning but chances are less for them to get this deal done.
The Cityzens are ahead of the London club as they have kept €60 million as the money to bring him to the Etihad stadium. Also, the Red Devils are using Bruno Fernandez as their trump card to make the deal possible.
Thomas Tuchel’s team needs a good Left-back as Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso haven’t been up to the mark. But, it would be difficult as the asking price should be at least €52 million or so.
