After five years, former Newcastle United player makes the club regretful

Newcastle

Newcastle have been very efficient when it comes to player transfers, with their skills bringing praise from notable figures. However, their decision to let go of striker Ivan Toney was definitely not their greatest move.

The now 27 year old has shown nothing but improvement during these past few years. Toney was one of the last season’s top scorers alongside Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, claiming a total of 20 goals to his name.

The player did not receive enough chances to participate at the Magpies. Still, he did confess that, when the chance arose, the player did not give it his all.

Current Premier League Standings

Nevertheless, the player now has his eyes set ahead of him, as he is desired by most top clubs. However, his availability is an issue.

The 27 year old is currently banned for breaching gambling regulations. Said ban will end on January 16th 2024.

Afterwards, the striker will have all the options available to him, with his departure from Brentford being a near guarantee. Indeed, with the player’s current portfolio, most high-tier clubs will try to sign him, with his current value being nothing short of £80 million.

The scale of the mistake Newcastle made when selling the player

Most of the previously mentioned sources agree that the Magpies did not properly utilize the player’s skills. Yet it’s when we view the player’s departure from the club that the most regrettable action is noticed.

Ivan Toney cost Peterborough £650000 back at 2018. The number is nothing but pennies compared to his price now, a price Newcastle could have been the one charging, should they were to follow a different path.

In the end however, the club is at peace with the consequences of its actions, and it moving forward.
