Arsenal in quest for Zubimendi: LaLiga star in every top club’s list

Zubimendi

One significant position that is widely in demand this transfer window is the defensive midfield. Most clubs are struggling either to fill in the void or to look for a versatile backup. The Premier League has a fair share of top clubs that are looking for young and versatile deep-lying midfielders. Arsenal, like other clubs, are not an exception and are very keen on signing La Liga star Martin Zubimendi. The center defensive midfield is one of the most difficult positions, and it doesn’t get the praise it deserves. With time, the quality of the position is almost becoming obsolete. We are witnessing less and less of Sergio Busquests and Michael Carrick, and recently, those who come really close to that quality are a handful. Martin Zubimendi is one of them and Arsenal does not want to lose another talisman in their quest to replace Thomas Partey.

Is Arsenal the right stop for Martin Zubimendi?

The 25-year-old Spanish international is already a club legend at Real Sociedad, having made over 180 appearances. He is someone in demand not only in the Premier League but for other clubs around the world. Bayern Munich, after failing to secure a move for João Palhinha from Fulham last summer, have made Zubimendi their primary target for filling in the defensive duties in midfield. Moreover, his style of play is more about sustainance than attacking, which Bayern requires as Kimmich is often deployed as a right back these days. Arsenal is aware of the rise in demand for the Spaniard. Thus, they are also making inquiries about Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães. However, Martin Zubimendi is more susceptible to fitting in at Arsenal, as he perfectly balances with what Declan Rice has to offer. Senior correspondent of Football Insider Pete O’Rourke said,

“Gunners will look to sign a midfielder to play alongside Declan Rice in the upcoming transfer window.”

Honestly, the ball is in Zubimendi’s court. He is a one-club man who loves his Spanish roots and his boyhood club. Martin Zubimendi has been at Real Sociedad since 2011, and he is living his dream. Although immense opportunities lie ahead of him, there is no doubt that he has rejected multiple big offers previously. Even though Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Spaniard, it will be difficult to land him in London. Partey still has one year left on his contract, and between those two dates, the Arsenal boss has to make a swift transition. The race will be difficult to land Zubimendi, but Edu Gaspar and the board will leave no stone unturned to get the deal done. However, for personal growth, Martin Zubimendi should make a move, be it for Arsenal or Bayern.
