Arsenal are looking forward to take down Manchester City in the upcoming season after almost catching them up in 2023/24 season. Arsenal are looking for a midfielder and are now linked with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. Chelsea want to sell Gallagher and achieve pure profit as he is their homegrown player. Some of the top clubs across whole Europe are interested to sign Gallagher. However Chelsea’s demanded price is proving tough for some clubs.
Chelsea parting ways with Gallagher
Conor Gallagher joined Chelsea at the age of 8 in 2008. He has ever since been with the London club. However he was sent on various loan spells. From 2022, Gallagher was regular member of Chelsea and eventually earned his spot as starter too.
Gallagher emerged as a crucial player for Mauricio Pochettino in the 2023/24 season. Chelsea admired the 24 year old midfielder and even rejected the bid from West Ham last year. Gallagher featured 50 times for Chelsea across all competitions in 2023/24 season. He scored seven goals along with assisting nine for the blues. Gallagher also played an important role for Pochettino after the injury of Enzo Fernandez. He started regularly in last five league games which were extremely important to achieve European football. Chelsea won all the five games and achieved the spot in UEFA Conference league.
However, Gallagher’s time at Stamford Bridge seems to be up as Chelsea need to raise their profits. The Blues are on the verge of breaching profitability and sustainability rules. To escape that, they have made a decision to sell homegrown players hoping to achieve pure profit. Chelsea’s city rivals Arsenal could now enjoy the services of Conor Gallagher.
Atletico Madrid’s bid for Gallagher
Atletico Madrid were highly interested in Conor Gallagher. According to AS outlet, the La Liga side submitted a bid of €20 million to Chelsea for English midfielder. However it is far less than what Chelsea expect and thus have rejected the bid. The London club wants a minimum of €50 million for Gallagher.
Arsenal joining race for Gallagher
Arsenal are now reported to have joined the race for Chelsea midfielder. Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new midfielder who will partner with Declan Rice and Jorginho. Jorginho has signed contract extension with the club after proving highly successful alongside Rice. However, the departures of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny have forced Arsenal to go for a new midfielder.
Thomas Partey seems very likely to leave Emirates next season. He has been gaining a lot of interest from the Saudi clubs. To replace him Gunners were initially linked with Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz. However Zubimendi has no intention to leave Spain and Douglas Luiz is now reported very close to join Juventus.
Conor Gallagher is the new name linked with Gunners. The 24 year old midfielder has already played with both Rice and Jorginho. Rice and Gallagher also are pairing up right now in Germany for England’s Euro fixtures. Gallagher came as a substitute to replace Trent Alexander Arnold in both of England’s fixtures. There is huge possibility of him starting England’s last group stage performance.
Gallagher can play as both number 6 and number 8 and thus can be equally effective partner to both Rice and Jorginho. Playing with Jorginho, Gallagher can be highly mobile which allows the Italian midfielder to play his best game. With Rice, Gallagher can play as a holding midfielder allowing Rice to move forward and help the team offensively. The upcoming days will turn out to be very crucial regarding Gallagher’s future.
