Chelsea Are Still Behind Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons

Chelsea FC

The new season of EPL has already started and Chelsea are still pursuing the signings of Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons. Chelsea played their opening match this week against Crystal Palace. After the stalemate, the Chelsea management still feels that there are two more spots to fill. The eventful summer transfer window hasn’t ended yet and the Blues are more focused than ever in securing the deals with both Garnacho and Simons. After facing the defending FA Cup champions, Chelsea are going to face West Ham United on 23rd August. Fans also think that these two particular signings crucial for the club as Chelsea are back again in the European club competitions.

Chelsea Need to Act Fast in Alejandro Garnacho Deal

The most likely signing of Chelsea hasn’t happened yet. Manchester United winger has expressed his clear intention of joining Chelsea this summer long ago. But Chelsea haven’t been able to sign him yet. The Argentine winger has verbally already said ‘yes’ to the Chelsea project. So, what is the reason behind this delay in completing the signature of Alejandro Garnacho? Well, several reports have confirmed that the club is facing hard times in releasing Christopher Nkunku. Nottingham Forest were in talks with Chelsea in the very beginning but the negotiations collapsed soon. Recently, German giants Bayern Munich contacted Chelsea and showed interest in having Nkunku in a loan deal. But Chelsea have rejected the loan move. It is clear that Chelsea want to permanently sell the German winger this summer. The club has also set a fixed price tag of ยฃ50 million for Nkunku. But the thing is that most of the interested clubs feel that the price tag is beyond valuation. The current situation suggests that if Chelsea ultimately fail to sell Nkunku, the club have to back off from the Garnacho deal. Manchester United, on the other hand, also demand at least ยฃ50 million for Garnacho. For these reasons, things have become difficult enough for Garnacho also. Ruben Amorim has clearly made his decision not to include the Argentine in his first team squad. If the situation remains the same, Alejandro Garnacho may have to become a season-long benchwarmer in the Manchester United squad.

The Club is Still Confident in Signing Xavi Simons from Leipzig

Other than signing Alejandro Garnacho, Chelsea have one more important deal to crack this summer. The Dutch winger is one of the most exciting young talents to watch out for. The former PSG footballer has completed a praiseworthy performance last season with German club, RB Leipzig. Chelsea became keen on getting him even though they were already talking with Alejandro Garnacho. At one point, Xavi Simons’s inclusion at Chelsea had higher chances than Garnacho’s. Manchester City also were in the race but that club has now stopped their move. But according to Fabrizio Romano, Xavi Simons has only given full priority to Chelsea from day one. But just like the situation in the Alejandro Garnacho deal, things have become tricky for Chelsea to sign Xavi Simons because of Nkunku. Earlier, Chelsea offered RB Leipzig over a potential swap deal between Nkunku and Xavi Simons. But the German club declined that offer immediately. For that reason, Xavi didn’t think twice while rejecting the offer from Bayern Munich.

From the Author’s End: What does Enzo Maresca Think?

Chelsea will at least sign one of these two targets. It will be interesting to see how Enzo Maresca uses them. In case of Alejandro Garnacho, Maresca will get a better option in the left-wing position. Alejandro Garnacho can replace Noni Madueke easily. On the other hand, Xavi Simons will add more versatility in the squad. If required, the Dutch international can easily operate as an attacking midfielder also.
