Chelsea Keepers Race Against Time for Denmark Dream

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is facing a big decision. The young Danish star has been warned that he needs to start playing more games. That is, if he wants to be Denmark’s number one goalkeeper at the next World Cup. The 23-year-old is highly rated. Yet he has not been able to get regular minutes under Enzo Maresca.

The Problem at Stamford Bridge

Jorgensen joined Chelsea to compete for the starting role. On the contrary he has spent most of his time watching from the side lines. The club has chosen Robert Sanchez as the main goalkeeper. Jorgensen in this season has made only a few appearances. Which mostly are in cup games. This lack of time on the field is a major worry for his national team chances.

A Clear Message from Denmark

The message from the Danish national team is simple. The starting spot is open only for players who are performing regularly for their clubs. While Jorgensen has great potential. The Danish coaches need to see him playing at a high level consistently.

The January Transfer Dilemma

Because of this World Cup pressure, Jorgensen is thinking about leaving Chelsea. He will likely do that in the January transfer window. He has a long contract until 2031. Despite that getting regular play time is his main goal right now. However, reports suggest Chelsea does not want to let him leave on a temporary loan.

Author’s Opinion

This is a tough spot for a talented young player. For his career, he absolutely needs to play. If Chelsea won’t let him go, they risk having an unhappy player who misses a chance to play on the world’s biggest stage. Chelsea should loan him out for six months. A successful World Cup playoff campaign with Denmark would only make him a more valuable asset.
