What James said about Enzo Fernandez?
Currently Enzo Fernandez is on a holiday but his video has created a storm in social media. Everyone wanted a reply from Chelsea but the club haven’t released any statement on this incident.
In a press conference Chelsea skipper Recce James said that there shouldn’t be any room for racism and discrimination in Football. According to Espn, he added that Enzo Fernandez must speak with his teammates to solve this problem. The conversation should be in a face to face mode.
What happened with Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez?
Lionel Messi led Argentina to victory in the Copa America 2024. The Argentines defeated Columbia in the Copa America final because to players like Rodrigo de Paul, Enzo Fernandez, Lautaro Martinez, and Angel Di Maria.
Following Argentina’s victory over Columbia, the whole team began to celebrate. Every player took part in the festivities. While the Argentina team was celebrating, all of the players were saddened by the fact that it was the renowned player Angel Di Maria’s final game.
Amidst these conflicting feelings, several players were signing a song in which it was stated that the France team is made up entirely of Angolan players. These phrases stand for racism and discrimination for football.
Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez also chanted some homophobic words, which indicated the relationship between France and Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappe and transgender model Ines Rau. So, the chants were racist, disrespectful, and homophobic.
While Enzo Fernandez was busy chanting racist words, one of his Argentine teammates made a video of it and posted it on social media. This video created a massive storm on social media. People saw the video, and most of them acted in a in a furious way.
Until now, Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez has not joined the squad for the pre-season tour. His fellow South American, Moises Caicedo, has joined the Chelsea squad in California.
Reaction against discrimination
The entire football community has criticized the actions of Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez. His Chelsea teammates, such as Wesley Fofana, Malo Gusto, Recce James, and David Datro Fofana, unfollowed him on Instagram.
French defender Wesley Fofana also commented on “uninhibited racism” in the disrespectful video. David Datro Fofana also liked this comment. This action indicates the unity of the players against racism. Previously, we have seen multiple players who were victimized by this racist act.
Players like Vinicius Jr., Bukayo Saka, and Son Heung Min have all faced racism in some of their careers. Nowadays, FIFA has taken initiatives to stop racism, and even the tag “Say No to Racism” is attached to the jerseys of every Champions League team.
Although there are multiple rules against racism and these kinds of things, players are being victimized again and again. These types of acts are not acceptable in football. Sports always unite a person with another person, and they teach us how to make friendships.
When everyone is trying to unite people with the help of football, this type of disrespectful behavior destroys the purpose of sports.
Chelsea’s action
Till now, Chelsea hasn’t published any official statement against Enzo Fernandez. In a press conference, Enzo Maresca opened up his thoughts on Enzo’s recent action and said that he didn’t want to add any new comments because the situation was already clear. Enzo Maresca added that the Argentine didn’t have any bad intentions.
Although Enzo Fernandez has apologized for his actions, all football fans are expecting a serious punishment from Chelsea. If the club try to defend the player, it will not make a good impact in the football community.
