Chelsea are heading into another transfer market with big plans. The Premier League side had very busy transfer markets over the past two years. Todd Boehly has spent over £1 billion ever since his arrival and is showing no signs to stop. The London club sacked Mauricio Pochettino after failing to earn spot in Champions League. Despite finishing on sixth position in Premier League, the Blues will need to play Conference League in the next term. Chelsea have now appointed Enzo Maresca who helped Leicester earn promotion back in Premier League as their new manager. Maresca has already began the preparations for the next season. Two signing have already been confirmed from thr Blues, and now Chelsea are reported very close to sign Marc Guiu.
Despite being on the edge of breaching profitability and sustainability rules, Chelsea are being busy in the transfer market. They have signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer which won’t be a problem. However they completed the deal for Estevao Willian which is reported to have costed Chelsea around £49 million. Now, the London club is very close to achieve the signature of Marc Guiu as they are leading the race over Bayern Munich.
Chelsea close to sign Marc Guiu
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently shared some key updates about Marc Guiu on his twitter handle. According to him both Bayern Munich and Chelsea are keen to sign the Spanish striker. However Chelsea are leading the race and are very close to welcome the 18 year old striker to Stamford Bridge. Romano also told that Barca offered Guiu a new contract but have not received any answer from Guiu.
Guiu has €6 million release clause in his Barcelona contract. Chelsea are ready to trigger this clause. According to Transfermarkt, Guiu’s current market value is €7.5 million. The youngster who has already made his professional debut can be a serious competition for Nicolas Jackson under Maresca.
Marc Guiu’s career so far
Marc Guiu has been with Barcelona’s academy ever since 2014. Guiu represented Barcelona B on various occasions before being called up to represent the first team. On 22nd October 2023, Guiu made his professional debut for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao. He became the youngest and fastest ever Barcelona debutant to score in goal in this match. Coming in as a substitute, Guiu only needed 23 seconds to find the back of the net. Barcelona went on to secure all three points only because of this one goal as the game ended 1-0 for Barca. Three days later Guiu made his UEFA Champions League debut. Guiu has represented Spain on both under-17 and under-19 level.
Guiu’s style of play
Chelsea can expect a lot from Marc Guiu as he is a lot to offer at the striker position. Guiu is a classic number nine and is very efficient inside the box. The 18 year old has already spent a year at Barcelona’s world famous academy. However he is not viewed as a typical Barcelona player by the people at the club and academy.
Guiu is very effective inside the opposition’s penalty box. His physicality helps him to be a natural finisher. Guiu is very fast and is almost unstoppable when given space. Along with pace, the Spanish striker has a very good ariel ability and is very strong. During his time on the pitch in La Liga appearance, Guiu had 24% touches inside the opposition penalty box which were 6% more than Barca’s regular starter Robert Lewandowski. It will be interesting to see how Enzo Maresca utilizes Marc Guiu after arriving at Stamford Bridge.
