He was used properly by Mauricio Pochettino in the last season. This summer in international break he went with England squad as a member of the squad. Although Gareth Southgate does not consider the player as a priority starter Gallagher still got some game time. He was played after Gareth Southgate changed his tactics which were clearly not working in the opening games of the Euro 24 campaign. Gareth Southgate gave fans their wish for a very long time after playing Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold in the midfield. The Liverpool defender is famous for his passing range and crossing. Fans believed he will be a great addition to the English midfield alongside Declan Rice.
However these tactics clearly did not work after England were one of the most disappointing team in the group stage. They struggled to create any good chances for their striker Harry Kane. Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Arsenal’s Buyako Saka also struggled in the early stages of the tournament. Conor Gallagher was played in place of Trent Alexander Arnold and it was clearly an improvement. The midfield was much more stable with the duo of Declan Rice and Conor Gallagher. This also allowed Jude Bellingham to go more forward for creating more chances in the final third. In Chelsea the midfield is mostly filled by Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Gallagher got his chances after the injury to Enzo Fernandez and gave some amazing performances for the club. Moreover he was a starter in the Chelsea’s 5-0 victory over West Ham.

Conor Gallagher has been impressive throughout the season for both club and country. He has always been a regular starter wherever he played. However his tenure in Chelsea can come to an end very soon. The English international has only one year left in his contract with Chelsea. There is also no guarantee of his long term future with the club. Many clubs are interested in signing Conor Gallagher. His footballing ability cannot be questioned and many clubs want him. Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have shown great interest in signing the player. Chelsea can use this as an advantage to secure one of their recent transfer target.
