Chelsea star Dario Essugo has hit with injury setback and may not return in 2025.
Dario Essugo adds himself to Chelsea’s growing injury list
Chelsea’s injury problems just won’t go away. Head coach Enzo Maresca has been able to handle the majority of the absences in his squad. But, now Dario Essugo is yet another name that has been added to the already big list of injured players.
The injury that he had while playing in the last international match for Portugal and later it got worse. He underwent surgery, and it is said that the recovery process could last till January. This is a great pity for Essugo and the squad. That is particularly because he had been enjoying his stay with the club ever since he was recently signed in summer.
The situation has forced the Blues to make changes in their setup. They will be removing Essugo from the UCL squad and replacing him with Facundo Buonanotte. It’s a move that signals just how serious the injury is. Maresca was counting on Essugo to provide backup for Moises Caicedo in midfield. He will now need to reshuffle his options yet again, with several key names already missing from action.
Maresca’s midfield issue grows
The absence of Essugo has made the midfield depth of Chelsea look very shallow. This is a significant moment of the season. Maresca has very few choices left before the match against Nottingham Forest.
The injury to Essugo will change the balance of the team. It will be a blow the player’s growth as well, at a period when he was fighting for a place in the starting XI.
Author’s Opinion:
Losing Essugo is tough for both the player and Maresca’s plans. He had started to show real promise, but football can be cruel. Chelsea will need to manage this stretch smartly to avoid falling further behind in the campaign.
