German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea on Carney Chukwuemeka. The player is already on a loan deal with Borussia Dortmund. As thing stands, Dortmund are interested in getting the services of Carney Chukwuemeka for one more season. After joining Dortmund from Chelsea in January, the player spent most of the season injured.
Dortmund Want to Keep Carney Chukwuemeka
Although he remained injured most of the season, the player played 10 matches for Borussia Dortmund. Since arriving in the last winter transfer window, the 21-year-old British player impressed Dortmund’s coaching staff. After having an uphill season this year, Dortmund want to have players who can control the game from the deep line. The young footballer has impressed the coach with his exceptional ability to provide long passes to the attacking third. The player has shown his class and he matches the criteria to be an important figure in the Dortmund midfield. However, Dortmund do not want to rely only on Chukwuemeka as the club has made a recent statement signing. Meanwhile, after helping his boyhood club, Sunderland, qualify for the EPL next season, Jobe Bellingham has signed for the German club this summer. Jobe, who is the young brother of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, is currently playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
Chelsea’s Standpoint on This Deal
Chelsea are one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market. Having qualified for the UEFA Champions League again, the Blues have already brought in some quality players. Recently, the club has signed English striker Liam Delap. Chelsea must do some outgoings too. Carney Chukwuemeka is one of the players who are not going to be a part of the team next season. As head coach Enzo Maresca has told the board that Carney Chukwuemeka is not in his plans, Chelsea have no problem if Dortmund keep Chukwuemeka for one more season. While Carney is currently playing for Dortmund in the CWC, Chelsea want to sort out the negotiations. Earlier, the London-based club tried to activate the £40 million but most likely Chukwuemeka will spend one more season in Dortmund as a loanee from Chelsea. The club also tried to make a swap deal for Jamie Gittens but Dortmund weren’t interested.
What’s Next for Carney Chukwuemeka
Carney Chukwuemeka is still a Borussia Dortmund footballer until the end of the month. In the latest updates, Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to play in Dortmund’s Round of 16 clash against Mexican side Monterrey. The German club’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, told the reporters that the club is in constant contact with Chelsea. “We’d like to keep the player beyond 30 June.”– said Kehl in the interviews. On the other hand, Chelsea head coach Maresca has said that Carney is a good footballer but he wants players who can easily play 30-35 matches for his team. Injury-prone Chukwuemeka has failed to gain the trust of Enzo. Meanwhile, the media have asked about Carney’s return to his parent club. As both clubs are yet to complete the negotiations, Chukwuemeka will be a Chelsea footballer from 1st July. Dortmund manager Niko Kovac confirmed this news earlier in the press conference. The boss has also added that he likes the style of his playing. He is looking forward to having Chukwuemeka back in his squad again.
Author’s Opinion
With all these talks, it seems to be evident that Chelsea will try for the swap deal one last time. Two things are possible in this saga. Either Chelsea will crack the swap deal or Chukwuemeka will continue to be a loan player at Borussia Dortmund. It is now time to see which of these possibilities becomes reality.
