Manchester United have to still decide whether Erik Ten Hag will continue his managerial role at Old Trafford or not. Many managers were linked with the job at Manchester United, however, no decision has been taken yet.
According to reports, Ten Hag’s future will be decided in the next few days. Initially, the fans were hoping to see a new manager before the 2024/25 season but United’s FA Cup win led to a change. The Red Devils did not have a great campaign in the Premier League but they managed to win silverware. Manchester United did beat Manchester City in the thrilling FA Cup final at Wembley. The Red Devils finished on a high despite their miserable season. However, there is still a doubt whether Ten Hag will stay for the upcoming season. Although the manager is confident about his job at Old Trafford, there is no firm decision yet.
Man United’s FA Cup win might help save Erik Ten Hag’s job
Although the Dutchman received hate during the season, the FA Cup win led the way to positivity for him. Several fans took to the media to share how great of a manager Ten Hag has been despite the circumstances. The Dutch manager had to deal with many injury issues throughout the season, leaving him without a proper backline at one point. All of Man United’s defenders were out at some time or the other in the season.
Moreover, Mason Mount’s first campaign at United was hindered with injuries. However, Ten Hag managed his way out with the available players. Additionally, the Dutchman has another year left on his contract but the decision of the new minority owners, Sir Jim Ratcliffe along with his INEOS group will also come into play.
Potential managers that could take Ten Hag’s role at Old Trafford
One manager who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United is Thomas Tuchel. The former Bayern Munich boss is currently available. However, the Red Devils have not yet made a move for him. Alongside Tuchel, the other potential candidates are Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank. While Southgate said that he wanted to only focus on the England national team, Frank’s move to Old Trafford was very unlikely.
The Brentford manager does not seem up to Man United’s standards at the moment. If a managerial change is to take place, the club would be looking for a manager who would help the Red Devils earn a top spot in the league along with winning competitions. Moreover, several football reporters said that there is no way United would replace Ten Hag with Frank.
What did Ten Hag say about his future at Manchester United?
The former Ajax manager received questions about his future and Man United’s disappointing form several times. Ten Hag responded confidently about his managerial role and said that the team would progress.
While speaking about his squad, Ten Hag said,
“We have some very young players and that is why we built this club back and that takes time. They are all in the first season of the Premier League and it gets more and more intense year by year. Those players have to adjust and that takes time. I am very impatient but we need patience.”
The Manchester United boss further added,
“Even the great Man United teams, it takes time but everyone forgets, even the players who were in the team , they forget they were struggling and need time to progress.”
The Dutchman has one year left on his current contract and it seems like he could just stay here for another season. Although the club haven’t officially announced Ten Hag’s future yet, the manager could be given another season at Old Trafford.
