Arsenal are looking for a midfielder to partner Declan Rice next season. Sporting director Edu and Mikel Arteta are monitoring various options across the europe. The North London club has been linked with various names but none of the deals were advanced. Arsenal were very interested in Martin Zubimendi followed by Douglas Luiz. Zubimendi has no intention of leaving Spain and Douglas Luiz is currently heavily linked with Juventus. The Gunners are now linked with Everton star Amadou Onana. The reports suggest that Arsenal have even opened talks with Everton to discuss the future of Belgian international.
Arsenal have signed many superstars from Premier League clubs in the past few years. They have turned to be a huge success for Mikel Arteta and the club is thinking to stick with this plan. Gunners signed Kai Havertz and Declan Rice last season along with David Raya on loan. All of them proved very important in Arsenal’s amazing run in premier league. Before these three, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho, Leonardo Trossard, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale have all been the signings from premier league sides. Another thing Arteta loves his youngster who can leave an impact on the team. Amadou Onana who is just 22 years old could be the perfect fit for Arteta’s plans.

Gunners making move for Amadou Onana
According to recent reports, Arsenal have opened talks with Everton for Amadou Onana. Everton were charged with 8 point deduction last season as they were found guilty of profitability and sustainability rules. The deduction could have been of 12 points but fortunately the appeal from Everton reduced it to 8. However it still was a huge loss for Toffees and they will not want this situation to repeat this season. Therefore, the toffees are ready to sell Onana if they receive £50 million this summer.
Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice will definately be the regular starters in midfield next season. However Odegaard plays a more attacking role and is often found in opposition half. Jorginho who arrived from Arsenal’s london rivals has signed a new contract extension with the club. However he might not be used as regular starter by Arteta. Onana who can play very well as defensive midfielder can pair up with Rice, providing Rice the freedom to play as number eight and helping the team offensively.
How good is Amadou Onana
Gunners can expect a lot from Onana considering how good he is in recent time. The 22 year old midfielder joined Everton from LOSC Lille for £33 million in 2022 and has established himself as an important player for the premier league side. He has made 63 premier league appearances for Everton and has been starter for Belgium as well.
Onana’s recent appearance in Belgium’s narrow 1-0 loss against Slovakia shows how good he is on the pitch. The 22 year old midfielder was Belgium’s second best player and achieved 7.4 Sofascore rating. Onana completed 53 of the 63 passes attempted. He completed 1 dribble and also had 1 shot on target. Onana was also very good defensively. He won 5/5 ground duels along with 4/5 ariel duels. Onana was also able to make 2 tackles. However his performance was not able to save Belgium from a shocking defeat.
