Gyökeres stakes claim for Arsenal after training boycott

Viktor Gyokeres

The fight for hunt for a new striker continues for the Gunners as they view Victor Gyökeres as their main target. As they remain in heated talks with Sporting Lisbon. For talented striker Victor Gyökeres to sign before the start of next season. As the forward has already agreed on personal terms with the Gunners. But Sporting wants to continue with the play further but Gyökeres now wants to compete at a bigger stage. According to Fabrizio, the player has now refused to return to the pre-season training with this ongoing conflict. The Swedish international since arriving from Brighton has scored a total of 97 goals in 102 games for the side. But now the player wants a move to the Emirates and has already agreed on personal terms on a five-year contract with the Gunners. This potential conflict with Sporting gives away an opportunity for a free transfer.

Gyökeres’ training stand-off:

Gyökeres has now made his point clear that he will not be part of Sporting in the future. He was called upon to attend the pre-season training but he refused to take part in it. The president of Sporting Lisbon Frederico Varandas has warned Gyökeres that if this behavior of his if it will be dealt with strictly. He has also promised to take any disciplinary measures which including fines or even dismissal without any compensation for the player. Sporting’s authorities have stated they will not be pressured into selling the player below the amount of valuation they have set already for the player. With that, the Gunners have proposed a bid of £56 million and with add-ons of £13 million. Still short of the asking price for Sporting’s fee of £70 million for the player. But Gyökeres is forcing the move to happen anyhow.

Arsenal’s plan for Gyökeres:

For the Gunners, Gyökeres can be the most important piece going into the next season. As they are desperate pursuit of the player from last season. The Gunners struggled last season in terms of finding a quality striker for the team. With the regular injuries to Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners were playing makeshift players as strikers. Gyökeres’ rise in Europe last season scoring the highest number of club goals in the European continent. The Gunners see him as a perfect fit for their squad going into the next season. The Gunners have already showed their preparedness going into the next season. As they have already brought in quality players like Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The addition of Gyökeres to the squad would complete their summer rebuild. Going in strongly for both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Financial problems for Gyökeres:

Sporting and not yet ready to let the player but due to the player’s current position have set a price tag of more than £70 million with add-ons. But Arsenal’s current offer stands at a price tag of £56 million and with add-ons of £13 million. Still short of the asking price for Sporting’s fee of £70 million for the player. But the player is ready to make the move happen and willing to sacrifice his salary to help close the gap. Despite that Sporting are not letting the player leave as they want their asking price for the player. Even if the player refuses to train for it to prevent any sort of premature sale.

Author’s opinion:

The current Gyökeres deal has become a major conflict between the player and the club. But ultimately time is ticking out for the Gunners and they must make their decision quickly. Whether they should increase their offer for the player or risk losing him and focus on the other available targets on the market.
